Our commitment to your child

    - We listen to pupil voice to shape menus across the year
    - Our catering staff are trained to deliver high standards with consistency and care
    - We are transparent about what’s being served and how it’s prepared
Paying for meals
  • - Meals are paid for via ParentPay
    - A hot meal costs £2.90 per day, booked and paid for in advance

Universal Infant Free School Meals

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a free hot meal every day under the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme. You don’t need to apply, we automatically provide a meal unless you let us know your child will bring a packed lunch.

Free School Meals (based on eligibility)

In addition to the Universal Infant offer, your child may be entitled to Free School Meals based on your family’s circumstances. If you qualify, your child’s meals continue to be free when they move into Key Stage 2, and the school receives additional Pupil Premium funding that we can use to support your child’s learning and wider experience.

Your child may be eligible for Free School Meals if you receive any of the following:

  • - Income Support
    - Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
    - Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
    - Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
    - The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
    - Child Tax Credit (with no Working Tax Credit and an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
    - Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
    - Universal Credit (with a household income of less than £7,400 a year after tax, not including benefits)
Why it’s worth checking even if your child already gets a free meal

Even if your child already gets a free meal under the Universal Infant offer, it’s really worth letting us know if you may be eligible for Free School Meals. Signing up unlocks extra funding for the school that benefits your child, and it means their free meals continue when they move into Key Stage 2.

How to check and apply

Everything is handled confidentially. If you’d like a chat with someone in person, our office team and our Family Support team are always happy to help.

Allergens and special diets

The safety of our children is our top priority. Our Prosper Eats catering team is trained in allergen awareness and food safety, and every meal we serve has clear allergen information. Our kitchen follows strict procedures to minimise the risk of cross-contamination.

If your child has a food allergy, intolerance, dietary requirement or medical condition that affects what they eat, please let the school office know as soon as possible, ideally before your child starts, so we can put a plan in place.

  • - Call the office on 0121 747 3369 or email office@cbins.solihull.sch.uk
    - We will ask you for a written note of your child’s needs, and may ask for a doctor’s letter where appropriate
    - Our catering team will prepare meals that are safe for your child
    - A detailed allergen menu is available on request

We also cater for cultural, religious and ethical dietary needs, including vegetarian meals every day. Please speak to the office if you have specific requirements.

For children with severe allergies, our Allergy and Anaphylaxis Management Policy sets out how we keep your child safe across the whole school day, not just at lunchtime. You can read the policy on our Statutory Policies page.
