Intent
Our PE curriculum is designed to inspire all children to develop a love of sport and to become physically confident in ways that nurture a healthy and active lifestyle. We encourage every child to see themselves as an athlete by mastering basic movement skills and performing them with growing competence, control and coordination. Alongside this, we promote an understanding of the importance of staying active and well.
Rooted in our values of kindness, perseverance and belonging, our curriculum helps children support one another, try their best even when skills are challenging, and feel included as valued members of their teams. We believe children need to develop teamwork and leadership skills in a supportive environment where everyone feels they belong and can succeed.

Implementation –
We implement this by delivering a cycle of skill-building learning experiences, following the Real PE approach, which builds on and embeds prior knowledge in order to meet—and where possible exceed—national expectations in the EYFS and KS1 curricula. Children develop as athletes through play and experimentation; discussion with peers and knowledgeable adults; and the development of movement skills with growing control and coordination, supported by high-quality teaching and opportunities to show resilience and motivation.
Guided by our values of kindness, perseverance and belonging, we ensure that children learn in an environment where they feel safe, supported and included. We encourage them to try new skills, keep going when challenges arise, and celebrate each other’s efforts and successes. Central to this is a rich learning environment that inspires, enables, and encourages all children to explore a range of movement techniques and confidently apply these skills in team-based games where every child feels they belong.

Impact
Our PE curriculum leads to strong progress across the school. By the end of EYFS, 88% of children achieve the ELG for Physical Development, demonstrating their ability to safely negotiate space with growing coordination and control. By the end of KS1, children build on the secure movement foundations developed in the EYFS, showing increased agility, balance and coordination, and applying these skills in competitive situations against themselves and with others.
Rooted in our values of kindness, perseverance and belonging, our curriculum ensures that children not only develop physical competence but also learn to encourage one another, keep trying when challenges arise, and participate confidently as valued members of a team. Across the school, children gain a clear understanding of the vital role exercise plays in a healthy, active lifestyle and recognise that everyone has a place in our sporting community.
